Biography
Rachel Moore (she/her) is a member of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona born and raised in Albuquerque New Mexico (U.S.). She received a Bachelor of Arts in archaeology and a minor in visual arts. She obtained a Master of Arts in museum studies focusing on indigenous collections ethics and material agency. After graduating, Rachel returned to her hometown where she spent the next five years as the Curator of Exhibitions for the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. She built relationships with tribal community members and worked to bring Indigenous narratives to the forefront of work done by and in museums. Driven by the preservation and reclamation of cultural knowledge, Rachel left curation to train in art conservation. She has worked in the conservation labs for New Mexico Cultural Affairs, the National Museum of the American Indian, the Midwest Art Conservation Center, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Rachel’s research focuses on indigenous perspectives and community-based practice in the field of conservation and conservation science through her work with Hopi basketry and the Hopi Tribe.
