Biography
Melina Edic grew up in Hiram, Ohio. She received dual BA degrees in Anthropology and Ancient History & Classics in 2021 from the Ohio State University. As an undergrad, she volunteered in archaeology labs and participated in excavations in the Midwest. She was introduced to conservation as a student assistant in the OSU Libraries Conservation Department.
After graduating, Melina interned at the National Museum of Asian Art as part of the Conservation Internship for Broadening Access, where she conducted a technical study of an ancient Chinese bronze belt hook, researched and treated a modern Japanese ceramic vessel, and helped make a traditional Japanese karibari drying board. She attended a Balkan Heritage Field School Workshop for Conservation and Documentation of Roman and Late Roman Pottery and Glass in Stobi, Republic of North Macedonia.
At the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, she documented, treated, and researched outdoor sculpture and performed a condition survey of objects in the Asian art collection. Melina has also worked in collections care roles at the Ohio State University Historic Costumes and Textiles Collection and the Ohio History Connection.
At UCLA, she looks forward to getting more experience in the conservation and scientific analysis of archaeological materials.
